Safa Coen was founded by Madilean Coen, whose journey into fine jewellery began unexpectedly during her early career in finance. In 2018, while leading an asset-raising project for one of the world’s largest lab-grown diamond producers, she became captivated by the evolving landscape of modern gemstones. After the Federal Trade Commission recognised lab-grown diamonds as chemically identical to mined stones, Madilean began testing industry perceptions herself — taking samples to auction houses and esteemed jewellers, none of whom could distinguish between the two. This sparked a deeper fascination with the history of jewellery, Leading her to study the craftsmanship and science behind lab-grown diamonds and coloured stones such as sapphires, emeralds and rubies, which are seen in some vintage pieces we carry today, each piece carefully selected by Madilean herself.

With this foundation of knowledge and a growing passion for responsible luxury, Madilean evolved her expertise into what Safa Coen is today: a curated destination for both vintage fine jewellery and ethically crafted pieces set in recycled gold, platinum and silver.
